Cascade is one of the most climbed moutains in the Adirondacks - and with good reason. The view is one of the most spectacular for the amount of effort required in getting there. All you have to do is pick a nice sunny day to climb the 2.5 miles up the mountain ridge to enjoy the spectacular view. I've climbed Cascade at least as many times as any of the other peaks - if not more - and especially enjoy photographing the wonderful view of the Adirondack High Peaks from the summit.
I had studied the weather patterns for awhile before having everything come together one afternoon in June, 2000 when it appeared that both the evening - and the morning looked like just the right conditions for the photograph I wanted. Morning dawned with a wonderful glow on the horizon as high clouds started moving in from the west. The moon was still in the sky, but became covered by clouds as the sun rose above the horizon. The photograph came out just as I had hoped. A slightly cropped version of this mage is available as a poster. |
